January 24, 2009: Jazz Band Takes 2nd at Folsom Jazz Festival, Combo takes 4th

Congratulations to M-A’s Advanced Jazz Band for taking 2nd Place in their AAA division at the Folsom Jazz Festival on January 24th. Outstanding Musicianship awards were given to Bryce Aebi, Sashi Ayyangar, Charlie Fitz, and Gilbert Fix. 

The Jazz Combo then came home with fourth place in Combo A division against very stiff competition, with guitarist Lucas del Calvo being honored as an Outstanding Soloist.

The success at Folsom follows M-A’s Advanced Jazz Band taking 3rd Place in their division at the San Joaquin Delta Jazz Festival in Stockton December 6th.
The band received unanimous superior ratings at the Nov 14th College of San Mateo Jazz Festival (CSM), the Dec 6th Delta Jazz Festival in Stockton, and the Dec 13th Winter Jazz Festival at Sacramento State. Holly Smolik, Charlie Fitz and Lucas del Calvo received recognition for “Outstanding Musicianship,” as well as Charlie Fitz and Gilbert Fix for combo on December 8th. Sophia Butler and Sashi Ayyangar were similarly recognized at CSM.
